Separate the displayed name from the sender
A sender label, profile image or copied logo can look familiar without proving identity. Inspect the available address or account details, while remembering that technical-looking details can also be misleading. Treat an unexpected attachment, sign-in demand or recovery request as something requiring its own verification.
Slow down the urgent part
Messages that threaten immediate loss or promise an unusually attractive outcome discourage careful reading. Pause before clicking, especially when the request involves a password, a code or personal documents. Genuine urgency still does not remove the need to establish which service or person is contacting you.
Verify through a separate route
Use contact or account information you have already established independently rather than replying to the questionable message. Do not send a one-time code as proof of identity. If you need to preserve the message for review, avoid forwarding private details or exposing other people’s information in a screenshot.
A quick checklist
- Inspect the request as carefully as the sender’s name.
- Pause when a message pressures you to act immediately.
- Verify through information obtained independently of that message.
