Avoid storing more than you need
Decline password-saving prompts and avoid creating a personal browser profile on a machine you do not manage. Downloaded documents, exported files and screenshots can remain in ordinary folders. If a task requires sensitive information, consider whether a device you control would be more appropriate.
Check overlooked places
Autofill can suggest details entered on earlier visits, while a clipboard can hold text copied from another application. Do not paste without checking what you copied. At the end of the task, sign out of any accounts and review files you created without deleting another user’s material.
Know what private mode does not promise
Private browsing changes how certain local browser records are retained after the session ends. It does not make a device trustworthy or hide activity from every website, network or administrator. Downloads can remain, and the mode does not replace careful handling of credentials or personal documents.
A quick checklist
- Avoid saving credentials on a computer you do not control.
- Review downloads and copied information before leaving.
- Treat private browsing as a limited browser feature.
